The post- Orbán era does not simply mark a political change of majority in Hungary. It opens a period of uncertain transition in a country where power, exercised for sixteen years by Viktor Orbán has profoundly reshaped institutions, the media, the judiciary, and part of the economy. What is at stake today therefore goes beyond alternation: it is a question of how a strongly centralised political system can evolve without disappearing or reproducing itself in an identical form.
